COME AND TAKE THEM – ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ
This immortalized response by king Leonidas of Sparta to the Persian king Xerxes in 480 BC, symbolizes the best known way conflict has been resolved in nature and humanity since time immemorial: clash until there is one standing. Human cultural evolution, however, has produced a multitude of other methods to resolve conflict, whenever resolution is, indeed, necessary. Because a more sophisticated view on conflict reveals that it is often ambivalent and may occasionally be useful. In this presentation we will briefly analyze the concept of conflict, its scope, its valence, its functionality and dysfunctional, its management and, ultimately, the most suitable resolution methods within context.
